The Public Realm site is directly connected with the Riverside Quay – Stage 1 site, which Landscape Plus completed for Mirvac Construction in early 2018, before the team moved straight onto this next stage in the master development plan aimed at revitalising the Southbank retail precinct in the Melbourne CBD.
The scope of work for Public Realm was very similar to that of Riverside Quay, the main difference being that the Public Realm project was completed by Mirvac on behalf of the City of Melbourne. As such, the Council were heavily involved in this project, and Council representatives were consulted by Landscape Plus each step of the way to ensure the construction work met with Council specifications.
Both Public Realm and Riverside Quay provide a space for office workers in the surrounding multi-storey buildings to eat their lunch, conduct outdoor meetings and spend time outdoors. Landscape Plus integrated new bluestone pavement with the existing old bluestone pathways, installed a waterproof layer prior to commencing the paving stage to protect the new pavement, built planter boxes and staircases and installed timber cladding, street furniture and custom steel structures.
As with the Riverside Quay project, this work was completed in the direct view of both the client (Mirvac) and the community stakeholders (the thousands of office workers who would be using the space once it was completed). Landscape Plus lived up to this close scrutiny and worked hard to ensure minimal disruption to the surrounding office buildings. Demolition works had to be completed between 5 and 7am in the morning to comply with noise restrictions and to avoid the jackhammers from reverberating in the office buildings while they were occupied by workers, which meant that the work took place in carefully planned stages over several months.
Once again, this was a challenging and rewarding project in a high-profile location that Landscape Plus is very proud to have been a part of.Back to project list
